Avenue of Lights

A word about us…

In the ten years since the gates of Moorman-Wavering Park opened to reveal the magic of the Christmas season; over a half-million guests have enjoyed the drive through the Avenue of Lights.

Volunteers work year round to not only update the beautiful displays you have seen in past trips through the Avenue of Lights, but more than 10,000 volunteer hours go into the planning and building of new displays to make certain each year visitors will see a new show!

Members of the Avenue’s board visit vendors and outdoor light displays all over the nation looking for new ideas and better ways to bring displays to life! The electronic wizardry utilized by the Avenue of Lights’ volunteer crew, has created what many believe is the “most animated Christmas Park in the Midwest!”

More than 15 miles of lights, using millions of watts of electricity have require a major upgrade to the park’s electrical system, which is currently underway. A new, one of a kind, 280-foot holly tunnel and 200-foot animated snowflake tunnel are some of the new additions that necessitate the electrical expansion.

Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother adds her magic to change a pumpkin into a carriage and mice to horses in front of the Prince’s magnificent castle. Santa and his elves take a little time off to play a round of golf and you can even watch him use his skills to get out of the sand trap. A cute snowman peers over the rooftop and tips his hat to all who pass. A beautiful poinsettia centerpiece adorns 25-foot candles and Santa massages Rudolf to loosen him up for a long night of delivering presents.

Mercantile Trust and Savings Bank went to Jurassic Park to find several new additions for their display including two new dinosaurs, and erupting volcano reaching nearly 40 feet in the air and a baby dinosaur hatching right before your eyes!

Of course, many of your favorites will return! The gingerbread house, Victorian mansion, stately church and carolers, steamboat, Toyland, star arch, are a few of the “returnees”! In all, nearly 375 pieces, secured by more than 700 stakes and nearly 5 miles of guy wire, connected by a mile of extension cords and powered by nearly 100 controllers and electric motors will help make the 9th Avenue of Lights, the biggest, brightest and most animated yet!

Whether you’ve been our guest in past years or you’re making the breathtaking drive for the first time, create a wonderful Christmas memory for your entire family this year at the Avenue of Lights.
